"I've always been an active volunteer because of I know that many community organisations which provide activities for our youth and the aged or disabled would not exist without a base of volunteers.

I also get satisfaction from assisting someone in a less fortunate position than myself - that nice fuzzy feeling that your actions and efforts are appreciated by another human being."

Karinya Counselling Centre Inc, Blackburn

Karinya Counselling helps people in need with free and reduced price counselling services for a wide range of issues. Jude Fry, Office Manager, explains how the Whitehorse Community Chest assists the centre in providing its services.

"Over the years, funds from the Whitehorse Community Chest have enabled many clients in a desperate financial and emotional situations to get counselling with a professional counsellor from Karinya Blackburn for free. Other clients have been able to obtain the service at a reduced cost. Many counselling centres charge clients around the $160 or more for a 50 minute session. We are able to offer the same service for $60 for an individual. This has allowed clients with disabilities to come talk to someone who has expertise in their area. We have been able to purchase resources that enhance the counselling sessions.

"We have really appreciated the support we have received from WCC in the past and look for the support from WCC in the future. Thank you to the WCC committee for their time and energy they place to running this much needed cause."
