Penumbra Centre

Penumbra Centre Inc.

Penumbra was originally established in 1978 as an activity group for people with vision impairment.  They have evolved substantially over the years and now provide services to people with a wide variety of disabilities.

The Penumbra Centre, aims to provide our members with enjoyable and creative activities while they socialise with their peers.  Activities include:

Penumbra Centre used their 2010 allocation construct an outdoor space for their members.  The backyard was nothing but dirt (literally) and there was no useable outdoor space at all.  Over the Christmas break,  a landscaper laid a concrete slab and crushed rock.  Although not looking very ‘gardeny’ at the minute, there is now an outdoor space to use when the weather is fine. Members are able to walk straight outside onto the slab (which is also undercover) without needing to step down, which is fantastic for those is wheelchairs, walking frames or any other mobility issue. Penumbra's next project is to add raised garden beds and outdoor furniture to make it really beautiful!
